About Bluedobie Developing
I'm Melanie Brown. I build small websites for people who need them done right, without the wait or the agency price tag.
What I Actually Do
Bluedobie Developing is a small technology company that helps people solve practical problems. For small businesses, that means building websites, fixing things that aren't working, explaining technical issues in everyday language, and helping owners figure out whether AI tools could make their work easier.
I'm based in Princeton, Kentucky, serving Western KY and beyond. You work directly with me - no account managers, no committees, no agency overhead.
We also create our own software. Our projects include tools to help businesses create content that sounds like them, help people with chronic illnesses organize their health information, and give fantasy football leagues entertaining weekly recaps. These applications are still being developed and tested.
Whether we're working on a client's website or building one of our own products, the goal is to make technology useful and understandable.
What Makes Bluedobie Developing Different
Bluedobie Developing helps small-business owners solve website and technology problems without leaving them in the dark about what's happening. The company builds and improves websites, explains technical issues in understandable terms, and offers separately scoped ongoing support as business needs change. When clients encounter problems beyond the original project, Bluedobie is willing to investigate and help where its capabilities allow.
Is This a Fit?
I'd rather tell you no early than take on a project I can't do well. Here is the honest edge of the work.
A good fit
- Solopreneurs and small businesses that need a real site, not the template everyone else is using
- Landing pages, portfolios, and simple business sites — a handful of pages, not dozens
- Website budgets under $3k, launching in 2-4 weeks
- Existing sites that have gone broken, confusing, or slow
- Owners who want to talk to the person actually building the thing
Outside what I take on
- Large e-commerce builds and custom web applications
- Six-month projects and open-ended retainers
- Work that needs an account manager, a committee, or agency process
- Running your marketing for you — I build the site and the systems, you run the business
If your project lands on this side, I'll tell you early and point you somewhere better instead of taking it on.
So where do you go next?
And after launch, you can come back. Light edits and website cleanup are standing services booked by appointment — no retainer and no monthly minimum. See how after-launch support works.
How Bluedobie Works
You contact me. We talk about what you need. I give you a clear quote. You approve it, I build it, you launch it. Most website projects take 2-4 weeks from start to finish.
How I Got Here
My dad taught me DOS as a kid on a computer he built from scratch. We moved around a lot (military family), and technology was the constant. I watched him build things, and I wanted to do the same.
I'm entirely self-taught. No bootcamp, no CS degree - just figuring things out, breaking things, fixing them. I learned from Google, University of Michigan courses, and years of trial and error.
Bluedobie Developing is named after my blue Doberman, Sabre. He's been my office companion through every project.

Sabre's been with me through every project, deadline, and debugging session.
Why I Do This
Small businesses and solopreneurs get stuck between two bad options: expensive agencies that take months, or cheap template sites that look like everyone else's.
I'm the middle ground. Custom work at a reasonable price. Fast turnaround without cutting corners. You get a site that works for your specific needs.
I almost died building a massive Shopify project last year (silent migraines, hospitalized). That's when I restructured everything. No more 6-month builds. Small projects only. Sustainable work that doesn't kill me.
If you need a small site built right, I'm your person.
Why Bluedobie Is Adding Content Systems
Websites were never the whole problem. Most small business owners I work with also struggle with content — what to post, how to sound consistent, and how to keep up without it eating their week.
That's real overwhelm, not a lack of effort. Time is limited, content needs are constant, and most tools out there assume you have more of both than you actually do.
That's why DobieCore Suite exists: a content system built on your brand voice, so you're not starting from a blank page every time. It's built the same way I build websites — practical, plain-language, and sized for a real small business, not a marketing department.
DobieCore is now being combined with Bifrost, a context and workflow-routing layer, into one system — DobieCore + Bifrost. Same goal: fewer scattered decisions and more clear next steps, with the business context living somewhere other than your head. DobieCore Suite is live today; Bifrost is the context layer being built underneath it. The final version is still being developed and tested.
Let's Work Together
Website help, content systems, or just a plain-language audit — start with a conversation.
